Dubai | The Burqa’a Repetto by Niftee
Niftee collaborated with Repetto, the legendary French ballerina’s that was founded over 60 years ago, for the launch of the ‘Repetto Loves Art’ project in the UAE.
Being one of 10 artists & designers based in the UAE, Niftee was asked to transform a pair of the iconic white ballerina flats in a way which would suit our character, feelings or imagination.
In this art piece, their grandmother’s old Burqa’as were delicately laser-cut with classic Arabeque patterns to represent the no-end & infinity of a classical item that has been considered as a symbol of strength & femininity.
The Burqa’a Repetto is a story of generations.
The pair of Repetto, along with the other art pieces, will be displayed in an exhibition only, and won’t be for sale.
Repetto is a French ballet shoes company. Created in 1947 by Rose Repetto, at the request of her son dancer and choreographer Roland Petit. Customers are claimed to include Maurice Béjart, Rudolf Nureyev, Serge Gainsbourg, Carolyn Carlson, Éric Vu-An and Kirov. The store is Pointe Shoe on Rue de la Paix near the Opera Garnier in Paris.

With simple silhouettes, vivid palettes, modern graphic elements and intricate details, Niftee managed to establish a highly recognizable signature aesthetic.
Aljoud Lootah’s collections have continued to gather momentum, cementing her reputation as an Emirati contemporary young designer with the future in the palm of her hand.
Niftee has also launched a line of menswear, Individualized personalized cashmere shawls and blankets, and created patterns that were printed on a plethora of silk and cotton fabrics, while overseeing every aspect of the production herself.
